HIP: A Truly Great Experience
About a week ago, my company sent us (me and my co-workers) to a two-day training seminar. The seminar was entitled "High Impact Presentations", and was given by Dale Cargnegie Training. I was very skeptical at first, because I didn't really expect much of it.
But by the end of the first day, I was totally shocked! It was nothing of what I expected. The instructors were extremely good at what they did (coaching, motivating, and encouraging), and I was overall impressed by the seminar. I think I learned more in those two days than I did in all of the communication classes I took in my undergraduate degree. In those two days, each of us (co-workers and I) did a total of 7 presentations. On each presentation, we would be video-taped, and the instructor would coach and critique us on the spot (while we were in the middle of the presentation). After each presentation, we would be sent to another room to review the videotape in which they would provide us with any additional feedback necessary.
It was very intense, and I have to admit that I was extremely nervous (I was sweating profusely on a couple of occasions). I don't really consider myself as an effective speaker or a presenter for that matter. At times when I would just want to give up and quit during a couple of the presentations, they (the instructors) really gave me positive feedback and encouragement in which allowed me to try harder and get better.
I think people that are in a managerial position, meet with clients often, or give occasional presentations should take this course. Although I'm not in a managerial position or hardly give any presentations at all, I found this seminar to be extremely helpful and motivating. I think this will help me speak with my clients more clearly and effectively, and also help to provide more business for my company and myself as well.
The course is fairly expensive, so if you can't afford it, then I would recommend getting one of their books. After the seminar, I bought a couple books from Amazon.

I've just finished one of the books, and am starting to read the second one. I found it quite interesting and motivating, and suprising, extremely easy-to-read.
